About Us

We are Drive China.

Founded in 2015 in Chengdu by a group of travel professionals, we set out to show the world that China is much more than the Great Wall, the Terracotta Warriors, or a cruise on the Yangtze.

We began by designing our own itineraries from scratch, exploring the backroads of China’s ancient heartlands. Today, we continue to grow, offering more than twenty carefullydeveloped routes across the country.

With a passion for exploration and a deep knowledge of China’s landscapes and cultures, we create journeys that combine adventure with authentic experiences.

Crossing China

If your journey takes you across China—whether from Kazakhstan or Kyrgyzstan to Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, or Laos—Drive China organizes scheduled border-to-border transits for international travelers. (Hiring a licensed guide is mandatory for non-Chinese drivers.)

Our groups gather at the entry border, and the more participants there are, the lower the cost per person. Groups usually include a mix of motorcycles and cars. (For schedules and details, please see here.)

Prefer to travel on your own schedule? We can arrange private crossings with a guide, either in your own vehicle or with an escort car. Drive China also handles all border formalities and the required customs deposit for your vehicle. (Conditions apply.)

Seeing the real China

You can cross China in just a few days—or take the time to immerse yourself in its diverse regions. Whether you’re part of a touring club, a private group, or an individual traveler, we’ll make it work.

We regularly collaborate with motorcycle touring companies from Europe, Asia, and Australia, organizing everything from week-long rides to three-month expeditions.

Fly-drives

For travelers who prefer independence without giving up on support, we offer fly-drive programs of up to thirty days—or longer on request.

Arrive in China, pick up a fully prepared rental car or motorcycle, and set out on an itinerary we’ve designed and tested. Every route is backed by our logistical support: local contacts, mechanical assistance if needed, and a guide on call for the more complex parts of the journey.

Fly-drives are a flexible way to experience China’s landscapes—ideal for couples, families,or small groups who want the freedom of the open road without the challenges of handling permits and paperwork on their own.

Bringing your pet. 

A unique Drive China specialty is assisting overland travelers who want to bring their pets into China.

Importing dogs or cats into China is possible, but the process is long, highly regulated, andfull of administrative hurdles. From vaccinations and health certificates to quarantine requirements and customs checks, the paperwork is complex and must be prepared well in advance.

Over the years, we have developed the know-how to guide travelers through this process smoothly, ensuring that pets and their owners can cross China together. It is a niche service—but one that matters deeply to those who cannot imagine their journey without their four-legged companions.

Whether you join a guided tour or set out on a self-drive adventure, we take care of the practicalities so you can focus on the road ahead.
